Lets do in-clinic treatment directed testing of a 10mm heel raise using the patients shoe insole. All we need is the patients shoes, a heel raise, scissors and a pen. The DOLA 10mm heel raise is designed to help change the pitch of the rearfoot to forefoot. Options are to apply to either the plantar surface of the insole with the 3m self adhesive tape or place in the shoe. In this case we chose the insole to move between different pairs of asics. Trim the heel raise to match the taper of the insole and shoe, this allows the heel raise to sit flat not sit at an angle in the shoe in the frontal plane like a rearfoot wedge Place the heel raise on the plantar surface of the orthotic at the heel and secure with the 3m self adhesive tape. This fast modification can be done in-clinic so you you are ready to go for patient assessment, patient feedback and treatment directed testing. A heel raise or heel lift is a common addition to alter ankle position, tissue loading, and lower-limb mechanics to reduce symptoms and improve function. It can be used to: 1. Reduce load in the Achilles–Plantar fascia Complex Elevates the heel, placing the ankle in slight plantarflexion Used in Achilles tendinopathy (mid-portion or insertional) Severs / Calcaneal apophysitis Plantar fasciitis / plantar fasciopathy Post-acute calf strains 2. Manage Ankle Joint Equinus Reduces compensatory function: mis-timed pronation, early heel lift, and midfoot overload Improves gait efficiency and comfort in patients with: Gastrocnemius or soleus tightness 3. Offload Posterior Heel and Anterior Ankle Structures Reduces compression at the Achilles insertion and posterior calcaneus Useful in: Insertional Achilles pain Retrocalcaneal bursitis Haglund-type irritation Severs / calcaneal apophysitis Reduces compression at end range ankle dorsiflexion Useful in: Anterior ankle impingement Footballers ankle 4. Address Functional or Structural Leg Length Discrepancy Can be used unilaterally to partially or fully compensate for a shorter limb Helps reduce secondary issues up the proximal chain Support Every Body with DOLA Orthotics DOLA Orthotics is your one stop solution for custom orthotics, prefabricated orthotics and DIY orthotic supplies.
