From 1957 onward, the story of satellites launched by country unfolds like an expanding map of human ambition and technological reach. It began when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1 in 1957 — the world’s first artificial satellite — igniting the space age. Over the following decades, the United States launched many satellites as part of its space and defense programs. As the Cold War receded, other countries joined in: nations such as France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, China, India, and later smaller or emerging space powers began sending satellites into orbit. By 2025, dozens of countries — from large powers to smaller or developing nations — have launched satellites, using them for communications, weather monitoring, Earth observation, scientific research, and global connectivity. sources: data: Department of Outer Space Affairs editor: Capcut thumbnails: canva/photoshop Top Countries by satellites: United States Russia China United Kingdom Japan France India Germany Canada Italy Luxembourg Spain South Korea Australia Uruguay Brazil Israel Belgium Finland Turkey Singapore Indonesia Taiwan Switzerland Norway Argentina United Arab Emirates Sweden Iran
