Let's talk about the Chernobyl Disaster. Chernobyl is a city located just 56 miles north to the capital of Ukraine, and was home to 14,000 people. Today, the population is estimated to be less than 700 and everybody seems to live 30 kms away from the disaster site. Chernobyl has now become a ghost town, which contains stories of dead people. So what happened? Well, on 26th April, 1986, Reactor no.4 of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was running on decreased power output, since they were conducting a series of tests. But nothing goes as planned right? Because, when the power output was set at 25%, the reactor malfunctioned and dropped to 1%. When they tried to power up the reactor, it resulted in a power surge, which caused a massive explosion. 31 people died due to the explosion, 50 people died due to the radiation, and at least 4000 died eventually.
