In our journey so far we have experienced two major developmental regressions. When we found out about our daughter's rare genetic disorder, one that causes DEE, we were told there would be ups and downs throughout her life. As much as that was made clear, we didn't really understand what that actually meant. At the time we found out, there was only relief that our daughter would have a long life, and good quality of life was very likely. Certainly we didn't know how heartbreaking it would be to navigate this path, how straining it is and how complex - and conflicted - the feelings it causes are. Regression is not always a sign of something wrong, or a negative thing - our second baby is developing typically and also experiences regression. But it's a very different experience to a developmental regression that's cause for concern. Going through my experiences in this video, I think it helps to show that difference. And give an idea of what regression looks like when infantile spasms start, as they go on untreated, and even the regression that sometimes happens due to medical treatments.
