Swimbait Review: New Bait Edition Mike over at Golden Belt Customs reached out and asked if I'd give him feedback on a large glide he was working on, and I said sure! This is the end result: Combine glide bait, 9 inches 3.75 oz, $140. Mike is ready to take pre-orders for the Combine, shoot him a PM via the Golden Belt Customs Fbook page if you are interested. The Combine is a 2 PC resin glide with brush tail. Bait sinks at what I would call an XSS fished on Copoly, and has a hard hunting swim on straight retrieve. The bait has kind of a broad flat head, and that helps to push the head of the bait side to side and give it a unique action. It thumps hard enough that you can feel it easily with the rod...The bait maintains a nice wide swim, getting gradually tighter as you increase the retrieve speed. Speed will also smooth it out on the corners as it turns. The Combine will also burn without issue, showing off its stability. The Combine is also very easy to slow glide, with soft reel bumps allowing the bait to dart side to side, and the XSS keeps it hanging there on the ends of each glide. It has great stability, with minimal body roll on the glides. Hitting the bait harder will tighten up the glide length, and the bait will turn on itself while being easily controlled. I also liked the look of the swim and pause, with the bait darting out to the side with each pause. Pay attention to when you pause, you want the bait to be basically broad-side to you when you stop reeling- this will allow it to glide straight and further out. The Combine was designed to be light in weight relative to its size, and can be thrown on either a Dobyns 806 or 867. Some folks will prefer the 867 for longer casts, but the 806 has plenty of power to throw the bait. I swam it on 20 lb Copoly spooled on a Tranx 300. Hope you enjoyed the review!
