Liszt Founded by CHI-WEI LO and XIAOPEI XU, the Psychopomp Ensemble has been recognized for their unconventional transcriptions and multidisciplinary performances. In a pioneering pursuit, the Psychopomp Ensemble presents music synthesizing improvisation, recompositions, and original works, forging paths in standard repertoire as well as world music and works in the 21st century. Immediate highlights include concerts presented by the UCLA, The Chinese American Museum (LA), Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Scripps College, Ukraine Forward, College Music Society, Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts, The Lancaster Piano Festival and the German Society of Pennsylvania. In 2021, the Psychopomp Ensemble participated in interdisciplinary events in Los Angeles, which attracted coverage from more than a dozen media outlets, including the LA Times, NBC News, Shanghai Morning Post, Qilu Evening News, and others. Xiaopei Xu Described by The Boston Globe as a “world-class pianist,” Xiaopei Xu captivates audiences worldwide with her “spellbinding and expressive” performances (BMInt). She debuted at Boston Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops in 2018 and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across three continents. Her performances have been featured by organizations such as the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Harvard Musical Association, and the Foundation for the Chinese Performing Arts. She has earned top prizes in competitions including the New York International Piano Competition and Oberlin International Piano Competition and has participated in festivals like Pianofest in the Hamptons and PianoTexas. In addition to her music, Xu integrates visual arts into her work, creating interdisciplinary collaborations. Her artwork has been featured in concerts and exhibitions, including “The Seven Deadly Sins” at the New England Conservatory. Xu holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University, a Master’s from Yale University, and a Bachelor’s from the New England Conservatory. Her mentors include Hung-Kuan Chen, Meng-Chieh Liu, and Boaz Sharon. Chi-Wei Lo Chi-Wei Lo, a pianist, improviser, and arranger, blends traditional and avant-garde styles with interdisciplinary art. As co-founder of the Psychopomp Ensemble, he creates unique concert experiences that push artistic boundaries. Lo has been featured by the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster Piano Festival, and New Asia Chamber Music Society, among others. In 2018, he was commissioned by Taiwan’s Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation for its 10th anniversary, producing the album Piano Improvisations. His solo tours, such as The Dance of the Seven Deadly Sins, often include benefit concerts, reflecting his commitment to community. A writer for The Boston Musical Intelligencer, Lo shares his insights on music and serves as a judge for piano competitions. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s from The Juilliard School and is completing his Doctorate at the New England Conservatory. Currently, he teaches at Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory, sharing his expertise with the next generation of musicians.
