D. Ering WL Sanctuary observes Wildlife Week at Berung village PASIGHAT, Oct 06: Along with rest of the country and the state, the Wildlife Week was also being observed at Berung village, one of the fringe village of D. Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary here in East Siang District today in which villagers of Berung including students of Primary School Berung also participated with much enthusiasm. The celebration of Wildlife Week was conducted under the Chairmanship of Head Gaon Burah, Berung village in which the HGB himself as village head advised and appealed his people to conserve and protect the wildlife of not only nearby D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary, but also birds and animals of around the village. The other speakers who participated from the village also propagated and assured wholehearted cooperation to the D. Ering Wildlife Division, Pasighat for preservation, conservation and protection of wildlife in the sanctuary. The villagers also voluntarily showed willingness in minimizing any kind of hunting in festivals also, as Adis have some festivals associated with hunting. “We must do away hunting in festivals also besides discouraging hunting for commercial and pleasure purposes due to which there has a drastic drop in the wildlife population in the region including getting extinction of some of rare species of animals”, said one of the village leader. While, Divisional Forest Officer, D. Ering WL Sanctuary, Tasang Tasa briefed and sensitized the villagers and students on the importance of co-existence of human being with animal kingdom. He appealed the villagers to play a proactive role in protecting the wildlife of D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary which is the worthy assets of entire people, especially of the fringe villages. He also spoke and briefed the villagers about tourism potentialities of the sanctuary which will give direct and indirect benefits to the village folks. Range Officer, Sibiyamukh Range, Domek Koyu also spoke on the occasion and advised the villagers to be more sensitive in protecting the wildlife for healthy environment for human living also. State Board for Wildlife, Member, M. Tayeng also urged the village folks to come forward in helping the department in controlling the hunting activities in the Sanctuary while presenting a PowerPoint presentation on importance of wildlife.
