James Kalm rides his bike to the Upper East Side of Manhattan to take in the first one man exhibition held here in New York of the work of Asger Jorn in decades. Jorn (1914-1973) is perhaps one of the most seminal influencers on European painting in the post WWII period. Floating from Surrealist inspired expressionism, to a New Primitivism represented by CoBrA, to his part as a founding member and longtime supporter of the Situationist Internationalist, this artist played a major part in some of the most recognized avant-gardes of the 20th Century. “The Open Hide” is jewel box show which presents a delectable group of paintings, works on paper, graphics and book works representing the major sections of this painter’s oeuvre.
