Rating 5/5 PROS= Carbon everything Ohlins suspension (its better than fox and RS) It really is fast everywhere Its an s-works so that speaks for itself Cons= Its stupid expansive (but almost worth it) Review= Let me start off by saying that I understand this bike is overpriced and you might be asking is it worth the hype….? When riding this bike I thought about it differently and left the value and cost lower on the importance list here and just enjoyed what the supercar of the bike world. This bike really is something that is a crazy mix of perfection and ridiculousness. Going back to car analogies the s-works stumpjumper is like Lamborghini Bugatti, its something special and everyone around you will know it; sure something less expensive like a corvette or GTR might be up there in performance but its just not as special. Ok back to bikes…. And what a bike it is. First of the build is first class, the eagle drive train wasn’t set up right and didn’t shift well ( not the specialized or srams fault), I’ve ridden and worked on enough eagle equipped bikes to say that its really good stuff and just needs to be set up right. The guide rs carbon breaks were also not set right ( not centered rear caliper and super un ever pad wearing) but I now have guides on my personal bike and can also say these are really good brakes with awesome modulation. The real special part of this bike for me was the ohlins suspension. Ever since it came out I wanted to try it and see how the rxf36 stacks up to the like of lyrik and the 36 fit 4. And it my opinion its better than both, it has the small bump and cool blacked out look as lyric and has the midstroke support and ramp that ive come to like a lot on the 36 fit 4. The stx rear shock also felt super high performing, it wasn’t as superior feeling to the completion as the for was but it will give the super deluxe and x2 an run for their money any day of the week. The in house wheels were also amazing the roval traverse carbon hoops felt light and stiff, and the hubs ( built by DT swiss) had great engagement and sounded good too. My test trail didn’t have and super rough sections so I cant speak about the real stiffness of the wheels but they felt good and not pingy like some other carbon wheels (raceface next r). A minute into the downhill I knew why Jared Graves chooses this over the endure to race ews on. The geometry and FSR suspension design are about as close to perfect as I’ve ever found on a bike. It was snappy and poppy when you wanted it but kept itself stable at speed and with no rider input. This is really an awesome bike and if I had roughly 9k to spend on a bike I would be riding one of these without a second thought, it just felt cool to ride the bike, and it put a huge smile on my face. Hopefully we see the ohlins stuff start to take off and branch out beyond specialized. This bike is bye far the one im most excited to spend more time on in the future, hopefully on some more rough and rocky trails.
