A 2-year-old child was found safe after a car was stolen from a convenience store parking lot, leading to a police chase that resulted in an officer's injury, authorities report. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Ja Den White ( Jaden Deshawn White) , allegedly pulled over during the pursuit and placed the child, still secured in a car seat, on the ground at the intersection of Moon Street and Bellevue Avenue. White was later apprehended without incident on the 1500 block of Superior Avenue in the Sherbondy Hill neighborhood. Police also recovered a handgun from the stolen vehicle. The incident began around 8:30 a.m. when a vehicle was left running and unattended in the parking lot of a Circle K on the 600 block of East Market Street in the Middlebury neighborhood. Police later located the stolen vehicle in West Akron, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, White allegedly collided with at least one police cruiser, resulting in injuries to an officer. The officer was transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation, though details on his condition have not been released. The 2-year-old child, who was in the vehicle during the incident, was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital for assessment. White faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, willful fleeing, felonious assault on a peace officer, and receiving stolen property. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming.
