9월 건축문화의 달을 맞아, 다채로운 행사 개최 September is Architecture Month in Seoul. A special event that provide visitors an immersive view of various structures from around the world were held in the capital... with a focus on making cities more livable. Kim Mok-yeon takes us there. In September, architects from all over the world gathered in Seoul to share their designs and exchange ideas on urban policies aimed at addressing the economic, social and environmental challenges faced by cities around the world. At the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, visitors can tour around more than 50 different countries just by visiting the "Cities exhibition" at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza. The architect who was behind the construction of the structure for the "Cities exhibition" says that she tried to include all the diverse works from architects all over the world loosely, portraying a strong collage effect. (ENGLISH) "The structure is meant to show the metaphor of the city. It houses I think 55 cities and the entire structure is meant to contain many influx of ideas about the city from all over the world." In the exhibition, visitors can jump from Asia to Europe by just choosing a door that leads to another country. There were also displays of residential areas around the world, even the close but distant North Korea. Visitors were also given a chance to write letters to the mayors of different cities to express their concerns. But, the biennale is just one part of Architecture month. [STAND UP] "Here at the Culture Reserve Base in Mapo-gu district, the 9th Seoul Architecture Festival is underway. Visitors can not only enjoy works designed by experts but also take a look at the creative ideas of university students." Under the theme Blurring the boundaries, the festival also features lectures from famous architects, as well as earthquake experience facilities that use the latest virtual reality technology. Foreign architects participating in the events said that it seems like Korea is putting in a lot of effort to change the public's perception of architecture.
