Fact Checking: The Future of Journalism?

We've all heard a lot about "fake news." Fact-checking sites have multiplied in the North American and European media, mostly focused on analyzing political statements or rumors gone viral on the Internet. At a time when young adults can barely distinguish true from false on social networks, and when some authors claim we have entered a “post-fact era,” shouldn’t scientific information rank at the top of these fact-checking efforts? This session, held October 28, 2017 in San Francisco at the 10th World Conference of Science Journalists, brought together representatives of various fact-checking initiatives in North America and Europe to learn from their experiences and their trials and errors.
