Ep. 14 This week things finally start turning around. After the chaos of the last episode, I get stuck into restoring the wood fire — cleaning it down, treating rust, rebuilding parts and finally getting heat back into the house. It’s a small win, but one that changes everything when you’re living on a cold, half-finished homestead. From there, an unexpected opportunity sends me racing off through storms and dirt roads to secure one of the most important pieces of equipment for this whole project: the sawmill. Getting it home was… not exactly smooth sailing — but that’s kind of becoming the theme out here. Back on site, I wrap up more of the ensuite renovation, assemble the wardrobe in the main bedroom, and add some much-needed redundancy with a second chainsaw — because when one tool goes down out here, everything stops. To finish the week, I take a walk through the garden to show how much life is starting to emerge: cover crops coming up, vegetables thriving, and trees finally sprouting after months of planning.
