History: The term “Electronic Angel(s)” was coined circa 1999 for and about the Project Lifesaver expedited electronic search-and-rescue program during its infancy. The use of radio-frequency, or RF, technology played (and still plays) a critical difference-making role in Project Lifesaver’s mission of “bringing loved ones home.” According to Gene Saunders, Project Lifesaver founder and CEO, and as told in interviews between Saunders and newspaper and magazine reporter and author Nora Firestone between 2008 and ’16, the Electronic Angels moniker was bestowed upon the Project Lifesaver initiative by a woman whose enthusiasm for the program’s concept, potential and long-term implications grew presentation after presentation as Saunders spoke with supporters and prospective donors for seed money.
