Diagnostically speaking they put all feeding and eating disorders together, and there are 8 total. Now each of these disorders have different diagnostic criteria, but the DSM puts them together because they all (quote) “are characterized by a persistent disturbance of eating or eating-related behavior that results in the altered consumption or absorption of food that significantly impairs physical health or psychological functioning.” The 8 listed in the DSM are: Pica, Rumination Disorder, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder. And the final 2 disorders are the sort of catch all for when we don’t quite meet the criteria for the other ones and these 2 are: Other specified feeding or eating disorder & Unspecified feeding or eating disorder.
