Here is the infamous CNN Gulf War Control "A" video, shot by a TBS Production team on site to shoot promo material for CNN the night the Gulf War "Operation Desert Storm" started. From January 16th, 1991, around 6:30 PM EST., this version syncs up the live CNN air feed with the tape, as most of the control room tape does not show what the control room was actually directing. The control room tape was archived by David Bell - Keeper Of The TBS Archives. It can be found in full here: https://archive.org/details/CNNGulfWa... A first hand description of the video from former CNN employee Steve Stahl, who has a channel full of other videos like this (that I highly recommend!) here: / @stevestahl "CNN Creative Services (Promos) had a crew on stand by in the control room and newsroom on the day we anticipated the liberation of Kuwait from Iraq would start that night. But the tensions would ratchet up through the day. by early afternoon Bush Admin folks were reaching out to CNN president Tom Johnson and stressing to get out staff out NOW, from Baghdad. They would remain, and report one of the greatest news scoops of the 20th century. CNN would (through much prior planning and a little white lying) have the only working (consistent) phone circuit that night back to the US, an open line called a 4 wire, which was relayed from to Atlanta via our Aaman Jordan bureau. That is what the Iraqis were told...it was for direct communities with the Aaman Bureau...but that was a simple connection to feed it on to ATL, and the world. It remains one off CNN's highest viewership, perhaps THE largest audience CNN has had. And I was there...in the Atlanta control room, as the newly promoted 'Supervisor of Audio Operations'." The time code on the CNN video is central standard time.
