Desert Biking Around Al Qudra, Dubai

🔊🎶🗣️ Many city #cyclists I’d met on Wolf Wednesday at DxBike raved about the desert cycling trails at Al Qudra, about an hour drive south within the Dubai emirate. Fortunately, I already had a bike ride there scheduled on my itinerary, joining another press trip group of international travel and fitness journalists. We rode in a bus at 5:45am from One Za’abeel and got set up with mountain bikes upon arrival. I lucked out and got a sweet #fattire bike—perfect for desert sand conditions. 🚲 #AlQudra is the man-made oasis of man-made lakes, perfectly manicured for day trippers, cyclists, campers, and the flocks of #flamingos and other birds who also don’t care that everything is man-made. Our bike ride was led by @Mjd_Smith and co., on man-made paved and hard-packed sand trails, stopping for wildlife sightings along the way—flamingos 🦩, #gazelles 🦌, and #ducks 🦆—and one pitstop at carp-stocked Love Lake for a pep talk over Emerati coffee. On our 16km (10mi) loop, we also rode through a man-made grove of Ghaf trees—national tree of the UAE—which are hard to sustain since they consume so much water.
