Two tone watches roar back to relevance with the 2018 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M (210.20.42.20.01.002) and the Tudor Heritage Black Bay S&G (M79733N). Launched one year apart at successive Baselworld watch fairs, these steel and yellow gold dive watches are blasts from the (1980s) past with modern movements, finish, and measurements. The 2018 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M is a new watch in every respect, but it honors the design precedents of the now legendary James Bond Omega Seamaster of the 1990s. For 2018, the 41mm case becomes a 42mm case, a new Omega caliber 8800 Master Chronometer joins the party, a sapphire display caseback arrives, and the Omega Seamaster "wave dial" returns in ceramic with laser etched details. Omega retains the signature beveled case, helium escape valve, and skeleton hands of the 007/James Bond Seamasters from Pierce Brosnan's turn as Bond. Here, the dial has been altered with subtle changes to the hands and the relocation of the date window from three o'clock to six. Ceramic offers the beauty and longevity of enamel without the expense or fragility. A unidirectional dive bezel includes Omega "Ceragold" markings and ceramic insert. The 2018 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M features a distinctive five-link bracelet with a deployant clasp suitable for diving. The folding clasp includes a push-button sliding adjustment and a fold-out dive extension. Inside the case, an Omega caliber 8800 automatic movement offers a 55-hour power reserve and co-axial master chronometer status; it is accurate, attractive to behold, and water resistant to 300-meters. The 41mm Tudor Heritage Black Bay S&G (steel & gold) retails for approximately half the price of the Omega Seamaster. This is possible thanks to a set of gold-wrapped bracelet center links and crown. The Tudor dive bezel is crafted from solid 18-karat gold and features an anodized aluminum insert rather than the ceramic or the Omega At 41mm, the Tudor enjoys a modern case size without straying into the realm of oversized watches. The bracelet includes simulated rivet assembly on most links, but the removable links are fixed by screws. A folding clasp with clamshell lock keeps the Black Bay S&G secure, but it lacks the adjustability advantages of the Seamaster. Tudor employs its manufacture caliber MT5612 automatic movement. The 70-hour power reserve is superior to the Omega's 55 hour. Hacking seconds (stop seconds), a quickset date, a full balance bridge, a free sprung balance, and COSC chronometer certification enhance the toughness and precision of the Tudor movement. The screw down crown of the Black Bay S&G provides 200-meter water resistance. Tudor's dial features hands that pay homage to the 1960s and 1970s Tudor Submariner "Snowflake" dials. The dial base is matte black, and appliqué indices match the gold plated hands. Gilt style printing completes the vintage effect, but super luminova luminous paint ensures that this remains a viable modern dive watch for those who dare. The Tudor Heritage Black Bay S&G M79733N-0002 is encased in 41mm of stainless steel surrounding a black dial on a yellow gold and stainless steel bracelet. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, and date. The watch measures 14.8mm in thickness and 50mm from lug-to-lug. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m 210.20.42.20.01.002 two tone is encased in 42mm of stainless steel and yellow gold surrounding a black wave dial on a yellow gold and stainless steel bracelet.
