FULL REMARKS: President Trump Signs To End Longest Shutdown in US History | Republicans Vs Democrats | CNBC TV18 President Donald Trump has signed the government funding bill, marking the official end of the longest government shutdown in US history. The bill landed on the president’s desk after the House voted tonight to approve the measure. Nearly every Republican in the House — along with a handful of Democrats — voted for the bill, which sets up a new funding cliff in Congress on January 30, but some critical programs ensnared in the recent shutdown will be immune from future political fights as the bill provides funding for a few key agencies through the remainder of fiscal year 2026. U.S. President Donald Trump signs Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371 - Continuing Appropriations Ag, Leg Branch, Milcon-VA and Extensions Act 2026. Only two Republicans, Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Greg Steube of Florida, broke ranks and voted against the bill to reopen the government. The House has passed the spending package to reopen the government in a 222-209 vote, with six Democrats voting to support it, and two Republicans voting against it. It now heads to President Trump’s desk for his signature. House members returned to Washington today for a vote this evening on the Senate-amended bill to reopen the government, which would end a federal shutdown that has now continued for 43 days — the longest in U.S. history. Rep. Adelita Grijalva was sworn in this afternoon, nearly two months after the Arizona Democrat won her late father’s seat in a special election. Democrats now have 214 members to the Republicans' 219. Grijalva became the 218th signature on a discharge petition to force a House vote on whether the Justice Department should release the Jeffrey Epstein files. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed strong opposition to the government funding package that the House will vote on Wednesday night. “This fight is not over. We're just getting started. We'll fight today, we'll fight tomorrow, we'll fight this week, we'll fight next week, we'll fight this month, we'll fight next month, we'll fight until we win this battle for the American people,” Jeffries said. #usgovernment #ussenate #TRUMP #democrats #uspolitics #mikejohnson #johnthune #cnbctv18
