A cover of Mac DeMarco's "Gualala", off of his Five Easy Hot Dogs album. I used a Taylor Baby Taylor for the acoustic guitar part (as it's the only acoustic guitar I own). It was a little thinner-sounding than the guitar on the recording, but I thought it did a decent job. There's a gentle stereo effect on the original guitar, which I attempted to capture by double-tracking. The synthesizer part was handled by a Casio HT-700, a quirky synth from 1988 that features digital oscillators and an analog filter. I programmed the patch and tried to get it as close to the original as possible. For bass, I used an Ibanez Gio GSR105EX. I'm aware that this looks like a metal-head thing, but it actually handles groove-based music like a professional. With a single bridge humbucker, it reminds me of a passive Music Man StingRay. I have it strung up with some medium-gauge DR Strings Flatwound Legend Bass Strings that I bought off of Craigslist (supposedly they were Tal Wilkenfeld's leftovers from a tour, but that can be taken with a grain of salt). The drums are just some Roland TR-808 samples. I originally thought it was a Roland CR-78 on the record, but none of the CR-78 samples that I had seemed to line up with it. I came to the conclusion that it's most likely an 808 behaving like a CR-78. Compositionally, "Gualala" is roughly set to 74.75 bpm and in the key of G♭ major (although it's tuned 25 cents sharp). I notated all of the instruments (for the most part); if you need any sheet music or tablature, please let me know.
