The guest speaker for this event is Alice Vellender, the Student Recruitment and Outreach Officer at the University of Gloucestershire. Introducing studying Quantity surveying at university Alice explains what a quantity surveyor is: someone who is in charge of the entire project and is responsible for health and safety, as well as reporting on the progress of the task. She talks about the kind of qualities you need to possess in order for you to be successful at this role, and highlights the day-to-day responsibilities of a quantity surveyor. Alice describes how this is a diverse role where no two days will be the same and where you will be expected to have a solution-based approach to working. She goes on to speak about the benefits of this degree and expected earnings after you graduate. There are many courses available on UCAS and it is important to do your research before deciding which is best for you. Alice talks about the factors you should consider beforehand such as modules on offer and facilities at the university. Finally, she speaks about industry links to help you gain work experience and looks at the application process.
