Ashling Murphy's funeral took place on Wednesday 18 January in Mountbolus, Co. Offaly. She was murdered last week as the investigation continues into a crime that has shocked Ireland. Mourners lined the streets to pay their respects, with those in attendance including Cabinet ministers Taoiseach Micheal Martin. Gardai issued an appeal for information on a distinctive mountain bike as part of their investigation into the murder. Investigators asked anyone with information regarding a black Falcon Storm mountain bike with straight handlebars and distinctive yellow/green front forks to come forward. Gardaí have asked anyone who saw a man dressed in black tracksuit top with no hood, black tracksuit bottoms with a large white stripe or white writing on the side and black runners to come forward. Officers have asked members of the public whether they saw this man walking in the Tullamore area, or if they gave the man a lift on the evening last Wednesday. The public has also been asked if they noticed him loitering at any location or “involved in any activity which drew your attention”. ___ Bishop Tom Deenihan spoke in glowing terms about Ashling's impact on her class at Durrow National School. "Today is about Ashling and her family and friends. I also think of Aisling’s pupils and the staff of Durrow National School who have lost a wonderful colleague and teacher. "Their grief and their loss must be acknowledged and supported. As we return to our lives after today, their grief and loss remains. "If there is a chink of light to last week’s darkness it must be the outpouring of support and sympathy that we have all seen. It was manifested at the various vigils, it was manifested by those who assisted here, at the family home and in Durrow school over the past few days by those who quietly and discreetly provided refreshments, stewarding and whatever help that they could. "Community is important and community works. Community is needed to overcome evils such as this and community will be needed here in the weeks ahead. "Today, we bury Ashling as we must. We bury a woman who lived the short years given to her to the full, who developed her talents, who reached out to others, who made a difference, who brought happiness and who was loved."
