JB Weld Gas Tank Repair Guide for Motorcycle Fuel Tank | Honda CB750 | Part 30 In this episode, I show how to use JB Weld to fix the gas tank on my CB750 project bike. Original JB Weld: https://ebay.us/woVuYF In doing what is required to make this a reliable running CB750 bike, I noticed that there seemed to be fuel below the badge on the right-hand side of the tank. At first, I thought that I had spilt some petrol down the side of the gas tank while refuelling and it had collected on the badge on that side before dripping down. When I looked more closely I could see that it was leaking from the hole where the badge mounts. I suspected that the PO had used a self-tapping screw to try to put the badge on. I found out that wasn’t the case, but he did seem to have used wood glue to stick it on! The leak was very slight and I suspect a pinhole had rusted through from water collecting behind the badge. I sanded it all down and put some rust convertor on first before I used JB Weld to fill the hole. There are specific epoxy glues to patch fuel tanks but I had heard that JB Weld would do the job, and I could use it for other work. I did check online that JB Weld was gasoline and petroleum proof and I decided to use the standard stuff, not the quick setting, I believe that this gives a stronger bond over time. Once it had set I put a little primer over the sanded repair to prevent rust, then covered it with the badge. It isn’t the best repair I have ever done and I intend to refinish the tank at some time. But if I don’t I suspect that it would last for quite a long time. It would certainly be a great emergency repair.
