Watch as this magnificent piece of industrial railway heritage gets down to business at one of Britain's most historically significant stations! Built by Hudswell Clarke in Leeds back in 1959, "Ashdown" originally worked the Manchester Ship Canal Railway before finding its way through several locations to arrive at Shillingstone in September 2020. About "Ashdown": • Built: 1959 by Hudswell Clarke, Leeds • Original service: Manchester Ship Canal Railway • Arrived Shillingstone: September 2020 • Today's work: Rail movement operations The Historic Setting - Shillingstone Station: You're watching railway operations at a station with an incredible 103-year history of active service! Shillingstone Station has welcomed some remarkable visitors over the decades, including: • Prime Minister William Gladstone (1882) • Future King Edward VII (1899) - whose visits led to the station's ornate canopy • Future King George V and Queen Mary (1904) • War poet Rupert Brooke (1915) - who departed from here for Gallipoli • French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau (1929) The station's royal connections were so significant that it received an unusually elaborate canopy for such a small station - all to protect visiting royalty from the weather! Today's footage captures this 66-year-old workhorse doing what it does best - moving rail around the station limits with the same reliability that has kept British railways running for generations. There's something deeply satisfying about watching industrial heritage locomotives still earning their keep at a station where kings, prime ministers, and poets once stood on the very same platforms. This is living railway history in action! 🛤️ Filmed on iPhone 14 Pro Max - passion over fancy gear! 📱🚂 Learn more about Shillingstone's fascinating history: https://www.northdorsetrailway.co.uk/...
