CAUGHT ON CAMERA: SDPD Sniper Shot At, Returns Fire, Clairemont

CLAIREMONT - December 12, 2016 On Monday, December 12, 2016, at approximately 9:10 p.m., San Diego Police Officers were dispatched to Mount Saint Helens Drive to investigate a disturbance between a male and female. The first officers who arrived found both parties in the front yard. During the contact the male became belligerent and began physically attacking both officers. After assaulting both officers the male ran into his house and returned with a handgun. Officers took cover and the male retreated inside his home. SDPD SWAT officers were called to the scene to assist with the incident. While maintaining perimeter positions, the male opened fire on two SDPD SWAT officers. Both SWAT officers returned fire. Neither the male nor the officers were injured as a result of the shooting. The male exited the home shortly after the shooting. He was unarmed, but fought with a police canine and several other officers before being handcuffed. San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. The male has been identified as 33 year old Hayden Gerson of San Diego. Gerson will be booked into San Diego County Jail on three counts of attempted murder of a police officer and other charges related to this incident.
