Day 100. 124km (88040kms 8yrs) Up early with a monster day ahead. I usually allow one hour per 10kms so I needed an early start to be sure of arriving before dark. After rejecting my visa extension application I’d been given 5 days to exit the country; first priority is to get to Algiers then. Being a Friday I would ride all day to the nearest train station in order to hopefully catch a train to the capital the next day. After the misfortune of the previous day, luck was on my side now; conditions for a big ride began very well. Overcast, with little wind, the road surfaces were mostly good, and it was slightly down hill most of the morning. In fact I made such good time I was half way in Sidi Bel Abbes trying to buy lunch by later morning. But all the way across town the restaurants’ shutters remained firmly down. At last I found a place just opening up and before long was tucking into chicken, veggies, and chips. This big feed made me drowsy for the second half of the ride, and as I tired conditions changed for the worse. A strong headwind picked up as I climbed a slight incline, and it began to rain. But I was just so happy to be bike touring again at last. This is what i came to Algeria for. Throughout the day I met superb people; the motorbike man who guided me from the bumpy backroad short cut back to the main road, the cafe guys who bought me coffee and posed for photos. When I arrived in at the auberge in Siq I was warmly welcomed, given a tour of the hostel, and gifted a local scout scarf. It was a perfect day which only breaks my heart even more to have to leave Algeria so prematurely Shout out to Djamel for becoming a Patron!
