7 day itinerary for skiing in the Dolomites

Ski season is almost upon us, so here’s a 7-day itinerary for enthusiastic beginners in the Dolomites. Fly to Venice with easyJet, then either get a 2-hour transfer bus or hire a car with Europcar. If there are 4 of you, the car is cheaper and the 1.5 hour drive to Arabba is stunning. Ski hire costs around €140 for the week including helmet, boots, poles and skis. Our hotel was €900 for a double room with breakfast and four-course supper included and if you’re sneaky, you can make lunch at breakfast. We got a group discount, so rope in that distant cousin if needed. Day 1 – ease in. Stick to the blue runs near Arabba; look for the Boe and Corvara lifts on the map. Get the Dolomite Superski pass and download the My Dolomiti Ski app. Day 2 – go west. Mostly reds and a few blacks, but nothing terrifying. It’s quiet in March but snow gets icy early and slushy by lunchtime. Lots of alpine-esque huts, cheap food, good vibes. Bar Peter is the best bar in Arabba. We turned it into a dancefloor and the locals joined in. 1000000/10 Day 3 – do the Sellaronda. It’s a 44km loop, takes 5–8 hours, mostly red runs. Challenging but doable and clearly marked. Great if your group skis at different speeds bc you can split and regroup. Day 4 – rest-ish day. Few runs in the morning, then park yourself somewhere scenic for lunch. A bowl of carbonara is €15, Aperol is €5. Cheaper than France and better views ;) Day 5 – Hidden Valley (Armentarola). You’ll need a bus and €4 cash for the horse tow at the end, but it’s worth it for the frozen waterfalls, and there is barely anyone on the run. Day 6 – head to Bamby. Fun blues and reds, jumps, schnitzel, Aperol. Bars close at 5 so après on the slopes early. Make sure you can still ski down drunk and finish at Bar Peter. Beers cost around €6.50 from memory. Day 7 – go home. Get a late flight if you want to ski in the morning or see Venice. Car hire gives you more flexibility (I only ever rent with europcar or enterprise because they do not screw you over). buses have a rigid schedule and only leave twice a day. Costs for a week Flights with easyJet: £140 Car hire with europcar: €300 (split between a couple of people) Ski gear (boots, skis, poles, helmet): €140 Double room for a week at Bella Vista (including buffet breakfast and supper): depends on when in the season you’re there, it’s between €525 and €900 (split between 2 of you) Ski pass: Multi-day skipasses for large families, so depends on how many people are part of your group. When purchasing a daily or multi-day skipass online and recharge your My Dolomiti Card at least two days before the start of its validity, you will receive a 5% discount. You can also check if your accommodation facility is offering a promotion and they can give you a promo code! Hidden Valley: €8 for the bus, €4 for the horse drawn carriage (cash only)
