Not all pothole repairs are the same. Temporary repairs help keep roads safe quickly, but they’re not meant to be the final step. So our Streets Team came back to show you what a permanent repair actually looks like. 😏 Here’s what goes into a long-term fix: 1️⃣ Old asphalt removed, about 3 inches deep 2️⃣ Tack oil applied to help new asphalt bond to the existing roadway 3️⃣ Fresh asphalt placed and smoothed 4️⃣ Heavy roller compacts the patch into the road 5️⃣ A crack sealing crew comes next to vacuum and seal nearby cracks, including around the new patch Permanent repairs like this are handled by small, dedicated crews. Gilbert has one asphalt patching crew with 4 members, and just two crack sealing crews of the same size. These small crews are part of the larger effort to maintain Gilbert’s 940+ miles of roadway, continuously monitored and prioritized based on wear, traffic, and safety.
