I Built the Rarest Cast Net in the World… And It Actually Works!

Come along with me as I recreate one of the most historic cast nets from the past! This net design challenged me more than any other design I have ever built. Why is this?? Its because this is one of the rarest cast nets to ever be seen, yet alone fished with. It is only built in a tiny little part of the world, known as the "Pacific Islands" There is almost NO information on how this style net is built online, or any videos of anyone fishing with one that I am aware of. I knew I had to build one of these nets and find out for myself, why they are so rare. I had the lead mold for over 6 months before I actually seen a picture of a net that was handmade on Hawaii and had these weights!! That uncovered the secret that had been so well hidden until now...! I have been building nets long enough that I knew how I was going to approach this project and I got a game plan together. Little did I know then, that this net was going to be extra lethal, and would quickly become one of my favorites. It hits the water HARD and rockets its way to the bottom at a record pace! I realized why this style net is so prized on the Islands, It can handle the ocean waves and currents like no other net can. This net is meant to be thrown on top of fish in the harshest conditions. Now with all of these upsides, it does come with some downsides as well. The heavy little net is a shoulder buster! It will give you a serious workout and you will be a tired after a full day of fishing. It makes a big smash when it hits the water, so that might scare some fish away (the sniper net lands much quieter). The last downside is the pocket isn't as efficient as the Sniper Net Pocket, some mullet were able to escape this net, but it still caught PLENTY of mullet this day! If we factor in the Fun Factor, though.... This net is so incredibly satisfying and fun to throw!!
