(crazy right ?) even the act/group name I'm not so sure about it ! lol would it be 'Shades' or 'Shade S' or even 'Shade 5', nothing is for sure unfortunately... (according to the hand writing, it's not a '5' but a 'S') no intel on the name of the group, about the year when this demo has been recorded, no intel even on the tracklist (had to build it myself) & I don't even speak about the background story such as how many members they were, where they came from, if they had a record deal back then or even if they were about to come out back then, no nothing once again... (at least one thing is for sure, you don't have to confuse them with the same act name 'Shades' the four female group which came out under 'Motown Records' back in 1997, as here, they are male singing all along) but let's see it on the bright side: it's because of I don't have any clue on it & also because of it's a kinda phantom act (that didn't even recorded one single) that makes this Demo Cassette/Tape even more preciouser, very valuable as a collecting item for all the Old School 90's R&B lovers ! according to the quality of the sound & the productions of the instrumentals of each track, I would state that this has been recorded between 1994 & 1998 (it doesn't sound New Jack Swing, even the uptempo track is not influenced by New Jack Swing instruments at all so...). we can also say that they were more than two members, I would say perhaps three members at least or even more (you can't create this kind of singing background harmony with just two members, I guess ! lol) to me, I won't lie, they were kinda mind blowing as group ! each & single track is a damn bomb ! it appears that it could have been one of those Demo Cassettes/Tapes that unknown artists used to carry on themselves all along & who were waiting for the right opportunity to pop up in order to get heard & get a record deal, that's how it was done in the 90's for you kids outta there: no Internet. to tell you the whole truth, even the titles weren't written, I had to build the tracklist myself ! LMAO when I say it was a straight up BOMB DIGGY, even the interlude itself is an incredible precise well sang, coordinated & harmonized little ballad that a lot of nowadays so pretended singers should be inspired of, HANDS DOWN ! straight up ! check it out folks or you'll miss some butter !!! 'Make You Feel Alright' (01:47) you also got the mind blowin' slow gem '69 Ways' which is definitely my favorite jam outta the whole project, so beautiful, I even would say the definition of the slow jam right here, couldn't have done better, it's straight up masterpiece to me ! '69 Ways' (02:29) once again IF somebody or anybody in this world got more informations on them, might be a close friend from their entourage, or also perhaps a relative from them, anybody, family, friends, former manager, producers, Djs, bodyguards whosoever... I would truly appreciate if you can tell us more about the group because it's the BOMB DIGGY right here & it's totally my style ! will definitely show them some love for their great work & ask them if they recorded a whole Unreleased Album ! I think to speak in the name of the whole Old School 90's R&B community when I say that we would have wished that they could have recorded a thousand songs with this kind of high quality they served us back then WORD !!! please leave a comment, let me know what you think about their songs, but foremost, enjoy this great, amazing & mind blowin' treasure ! remember when you heard it first !
