This video goes over the most common stitch used in decorative embroidery. The split stitch, I show how this stitch is worked in a current project. I also discuss project planning with tips and tricks on completing a complex project like this one. The fabric pattern can be purchased from spoonflower.com The thicker black embroidery twist can be purchased from a small fiber arts vendor whitewolfandphoenix.com The thinner silk embroidery thread can be purchased from Guttermans. They only have one size of silk sewing thread. Blackwork style of embroidery was known as Spanish work. Popularized in England by Catherine of Aragon marrying Henry VIII and becoming the Queen of England. It started out as geometric patterns, many on collars and cuffs of shifts and shirts. Eventually whole coifs, sleeves and forepart skirts are decorated in this style in the Elizabethan era. The geometric part stays but is used to fill space in more elaborate floral design as seen in this reproduction pattern. Enjoy!
