Ukraine: UNESCO protects underwater heritage at Khortytsia Reserve

Amid the war, the cultural heritage of Khortytsia National Reserve on the Dnipro River is under serious threat. After the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, submerged artefacts were exposed and require urgent documentation and preservation, while shelling continues to endanger the site. With support from the Government of Japan and the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund, UNESCO is conducting urgent research and safeguarding vulnerable sites.
