They use simple chord shapes as much as possible and do not necessarily represent the way in which the song was originally played. They are designed as practice tools to supplement your other learning methods. Information is provided on screen for both right and left-handed players! Like most Alice In Chains songs, Nutshell was originally recorded in Eb tuning, meaning the guitars are all tuned a half-step down. I've done this lesson in standard tuning so it doesn't match up to the recording, but the chord shapes used are correct. To change into Eb tuning you just need to drop each string on your guitar down by one note (low to high: Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb). Alternatively, many computers will be able to pitch shift the song by +1 in the audio control settings so it matches standard tuning. Nutshell is a very simple song from a chord point of view, but what makes it a bit tricky is the strange rhythm and timing of the chord changes. If you're not comfortable doing complicated strum patterns yet it's best to just try and get the chord changes down first and not worry about strumming. This is very much a feel piece so get familiar with when the changes are happening. There are some little embellishments to the Cadd9 chords as you play, these can be improvised or skipped.
