Rainer Maria Rilke’s The Lay of Love and Death of Cornet Christoph Rilke inhabits the space between prose and poetry, song and story, man and woman, love and death. Choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker approaches Rilke’s sensuous fever dream as a musical score: ‘How can you embody language? Dance a story? How can breathing, one of the most elementary patterns of movement, develop into choreography? What happens when you confront the logic of a text with an autonomous logic of movement? Take, for example, Noh-theatre: movement underlines, accentuates or illustrates a story, and yet it maintains its own logic, its own beauty – independent of text or story. In Rilke’s Cornet, I wanted to explore the subtle nuances between breathing, speaking and singing, between the male and the female, the lyrical and the prosaic.’ By Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker With Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Michaël Pomero Text Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke, Rainer Maria Rilke Music Opera per flauto, Salvatore Sciarrino — Immagine fenicia — All’aure in una lontananza Live performance Chryssi Dimitriou Lighting design Luc Schaltin Costumes Anne-Catherine Kunz Graphic Design Casier/Fieuws Artistic assistant Femke Gyselinck Dramaturgy Vasco Boenisch German language coach Roswitha Dierck Artistic advisor scenography Michel François Sound Alban Moraud assisted by Aurianne Skybyk Costumes Coordinator Heide Vanderieck Artistic coordination and planning Anne Van Aerschot Technical director Joris Erven Wardrobe Valérie De Waele,Emma Zune Technicians Philippe Fortaine, Wannes De Rydt, Michael Smets, Bert Veris Production Rosas Coproduction De Munt / La Monnaie (Brussel/Bruxelles), Ruhrtriennale, Concertgebouw Brugge, le théâtre de Gennevilliers avec le Festival d'Automne à Paris, Sadler’s Wells(London), Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg Premiere 24/09/2015, Ruhrtriennale Special thanks to Floor Keersmaekers, Thierry Bae, Marie Goudot Video made by Gerard-Jan Claes & Olivia Rochette Rosas is supported by the Flemish Community © Rosas, Van Volxemlaan 164, 1190 Brussels www.rosas.be www.facebook.com/rosasdancecompany
