57-year-old lady came to the emergency with unconsciousness of 6 hours duration. She was given first aid at an outside hospital, connected to a ventilator, and shifted here for advanced treatment. MRI brain revealed brain stem stroke and basilar artery thrombosis. Occlusion of the basilar artery is a life-threatening condition with high mortality, as the vital structures controlling heart rate, breathing, and consciousness get affected. She was taken up for emergency brain angiography and mechanical thrombectomy and clot retrieval, led by Dr. (Prof.) Suryanarayana Sharma P M, a senior consultant neurologist and stroke specialist, and Dr. Major Savith Kumar, a senior consultant interventional radiologist. The patient was in a semiconscious state for a week, weaned off the ventilator, and shifted to the ward. She underwent rehabilitation and made a full recovery. Now she is able to perform all activities and has returned to work.
