Join me on my longest solo journey EVER, KFHB in Florida to KLGB in California. This was supposed to be my second leg, KBTR to KBWD. My first real emergency. I had both alternators fail on me (which turned out to be because someone didn't tighten a bolt on alt 1 and the voltage shorted out the field control module) and had to return to the airport at BTR. It took me 2.5 minutes of running checklists and turning off non essentials before ultimately returning back to the airport. I'm so glad I have this video, it was very helpful to see after the fact. It made me feel very confident about my decision making skills under pressure. I've had a lot of hazardous attitude comments on my TikTok and Instagram saying this wasn't an emergency... well, it absolutely is. After 15-30m on battery, I'd lose my PFD, MFD, lights, comms, and more. Flying on an IFR flight plan for another 650nm with none of these essentials would have been an absolutely insane thing to do. An emergency doesn't mean the engine fails or the plane turns into dust, but this was 100% a reason to return to the airport and land immediately. I didn't declare because I knew I'd make it back. I'm proud of my decision making and lucky the loose bolt didn't actually fail both alternators, just the control module. THANK YOU TO HOLT at Hancock Aviation at KBTR, he truly bent over backwards for me. 00:00 Intro 02:17 WX from BTR 06:33 Taxi to Runway 11:09 Takeoff from BTR 14:40 CAS Messages Start/Alternator Failures 25:40 Landing Currently on a mission to land at every public US airport in my Cirrus SR22T N123PC!
