So far the best chapter is last year’s ‘For the Better’ EP. “Doing the same thing / It happens everyday / I hate feeling this way,” she laments at the onset over the 'Channel Orange'-coded loop of “We Keep On.” The electro-dub “OH!" then finds her rushing to 7/11 to grab Excedrin to treat an infidelity-induced headache. “I heard that hurt people hurt people they love the most,” she muses. Absent from ‘For the Better’ is “Bloom,” her unofficial 2024 submission for viral R&B track. The TikTok gospel scene - a very real thing - has adopted it as a reflection of spiritual love. Is relogiosity the song’s original intention? No. But this Brandy and Jazmine Sullivan acolyte knows art is always up for interpretation. Plus: Nearly 20 million Spotify streams and 450k+ TikTok video creations will make anything sweet. No surprise she was feeling herself when she rolled up to the DSCVR stage. “Especially when I got a live band with me,” she bragged, before backing it all up with a fantastic live version of her new hit.
