A ball valve handle is used to open or close the valve, thereby allowing or stopping the fluid flow through the valve. The lever-style ball valve handle is the most commonly used type. Ball valve handles are often made out of stainless steel, aluminum, brass, plastic, or titanium. The primary reason a ball valve handle needs to be replaced is when it has mechanical damage, for example when the handle breaks or gets rusted completely beyond repair. It is important to replace the handle once you observe it is damaged to ensure that when you need to open/close the valve it is usable. Now, let us see how to replace a broken ball valve handle. Depending on the assembly, replacing the handle requires a few easy steps. A push-on type PVC ball valve handle snaps on top of the valve stem. To replace a push-on type handle, shut off the fluid flow in the system and firmly pluck the handle till it pops out of the valve. You can then snap on the new handle. For metal valves, often times a screw-on handle is screwed to the valve stem. First, ensure the main fluid supply is shut off. Then, remove either the screw or nut that holds the handle onto the valve stem. This then loosens the handle allowing you to remove the handle easily. Then, you can put on the new handle and tighten the nut. If there is a leak coming up through the valve stem to the handle, the valve packing may need to be replaced. Knowing the model number of the ball valve helps get a proper replacement for the valve handle.
