PAX West 2024 | Scenes from one of the largest gaming conventions in the world

PAX West is here for its 20th anniversary and downtown Seattle is brimming with excitement for the convention. The Seattle Convention Center has essentially transformed into a gaming hub that welcomes gamers of all ages, interests, and experience levels. To put it plainly, there is something for everyone at PAX West. The convention started in Bellevue way back in 2004 when the people at Penny Arcade decided they wanted a show exclusively to celebrate gaming and its culture. Since its first convention 20 years ago, PAX continued to grow in size and evolve with the times to become the event we know it as today. The Arch Expo Hall was home to most of video game exhibitors of all notoriety. Of course, big names such as PlayStation, Microsoft, and Nintendo were there, but a lot of buzz came from indie games showing out their latest builds. It was a spectacle. The Arch Expo Hall had tons of visually appealing displays that would really create a sense of reality for the games and immerse you into each of their distinct worlds as you play their demos. And yes, there were tons of photo opportunities. Within the first 30 minutes of the convention, some of your most notable companies’ lines were closing due to the high capacity of people. The Nintendo and Pokémon areas were standouts when it came to long lines. Convention workers could be seen facilitating the areas and holding signs letting people know to come back later if they were closed. All lines are standing, so plan ahead and be prepared to wait. That's not to say waiting isn't worth the time though. Once you make it past the line, you're then able to get a hands-on experience with these games in an environment like no other.
