[Diplomat's Archives: Hidden Stories] Special Dictionaries Connecting Korea and Timor-Leste

Ep38 Special Dictionaries Connecting Korea and Timor-Leste Timor-Leste is the first country to gain independence in the 21st century and established diplomatic relations with S. Korea in 2002, shortly after its independence. Recently, academic communities in Korea and Timor-Leste collaborated to publish special language dictionaries. With the successive release of a Tetum–Korean dictionary in 2022 and a Korean–Tetum dictionary in 2025, bidirectional dictionaries are now available. In this episode we unveil the unique story behind the creation of this language dictionary, which is expected to bring Korea and Timor-Leste even closer.
