episode 6 | A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SURGICAL TECH | my stapler broke 😫, new surgeon, fast cases Guys lol I did not get to film my stapler that broke cause I was in my case! So here's a few breakdown of what happened today: 1. LAP GASTRIC SLEEVE New surgeon, super nice. Did this case once and I just knew basic stuff. He had an assist whom I knew from a different hospital so that's great! She helped me set up. He had so much stuff in his card lol lawrdddd hammercy but it all made sense as I read it. So he uses the electric reloadable stapler and the tan reload was not snapping right. It's taking me longer than usual to reload it cause usually it just snaps but this time it wasn't doing it. So after 10 million tries I decided to share my misery and have him and the assist try it and just as I expected, THE STAPLER WAS DEFECTIVE. Thank u God. I knew I wasn't crazy. So yeah, he wasn't mad but he's usually super fast at these cases and I was slowing him down so nope, not today. Resolved! Whew I was sweating though. 2. TRACHEOSTOMY I know this surgeon. He's old but his history tells me that he gets terribly sick patients so there's a chance it'll take longer than usual but unfortunately after I set up, they had me take lunch and moved me to a different case which was super delayed and that gave me time to kinda relax and chill since it's so fast paced in the morning. By the way, if you have my booklet, there's a set up for this. 3. LACERATION REPAIR I didn't know how big or long the laceration was but I set up as if it's just a small scratch. I was wrong. It was long and deep and had to scrape alot of dead skin. Please see my basic set up video on my channel for more info. So I left at the right time this time which is at 3pm and I only got to do 2 cases. So this goes to tell you on average how many you do in a day if you're 8s but more obviously if you are 12a or 10s. Average cases with 8s is 3 or 4 depending on how fast the surgeon is. For 12s, expect atleast 4 cases. Check out my other videos of DAY IN THE LIFE on my channel and please subscribe if you haven't!
