Hello friends welcome to my channel Pathology Gyan, My name is Akash Prajapati, Today's topic is Pus Culture Test. What is an aerobic culture (pus) test? A culture test is done to check for infectious organisms in the body. An aerobic culture test is done to check for aerobic bacteria in pus. Pus is a yellowish fluid that forms at the site of infection. Aerobic bacteria require oxygen to grow and develop and therefore usually cause skin infections. Some examples of aerobic bacteria include B. streptococci, Enterococcus, Fasalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella, Proteus, Escherichia coli (E. coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus, and Nocardia. Pus may contain a variety of microorganisms that are tested to determine treatment and speed wound healing. The pus used for the culture test is collected from skin or tooth abscesses, or from sores or wounds on the skin, eyes, throat, bladder, umbilical cord, neck, nails and stitches after surgery. Once removed, the pus is placed in a container where bacteria can grow. If aerobic bacteria grow in the air, it indicates an infection. What is an aerobic (pus) culture test done for?
