This is an edited version of the original released in July 2015 Greater Adelaide is a region of Australia consisting of 17 districts: 16 city or town councils and the City of Adelaide. Most councils fund "Community Buses" using volunteer drivers for use by residents of their cities. The City of Adelaide funds 2 buses routes within the square mile of the CBD and the suburb of North Adelaide which operated by drivers from AdelaideMetro's contractor. The State Government of South Australia is responsible for the main roads, suburban railways, Light Rail (trams) and buses. There are no ferries currently operating in the Greater Adelaide. Roads and Public Transport are a State Government responsibility In 1978 the ownership of the Heavy Rail Freight Lines were passed the the Federal Government. These tracks are now owned by the Qango (Quasi Autonomous Non-Government Organisation) called Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) which is owned by the Federal Government. http://www.infrastructure.sa.gov.au/n... "The Northern Connector, a proposed new freight rail line and multi-laned motorway, is a critical component of Adelaide’s north–south corridor that links major transport routes and enables an all but unimpeded journey from Port Wakefield, the mid north, the Barossa Valley and the Riverland to the Port of Adelaide or the length of the corridor, to Old Noarlunga. The 31 kilometre train track will be used by freight trains as well as the Ghan and Indian Pacific, and connect with the existing rail line at Kings Road, Virginia and the Outer Harbor line at Dry Creek. Four rail bridges will separate rail freight travelling up to 115 kilometres per hour from road vehicles. This national freight rail line will link with the existing freight network and make a more efficient north–south link for Perth to Melbourne journeys." Earlier version of the plan had the railway running down the centre of much of the highway. The latest version has the railway running alongside most sections of the highway. Video is taken at Northern Expressway Road Bridge over the existing ARTC rail track at Penfield, Port Wakefield Highway Bridge at junction with the Northern Expressway. This bridge is planned to be the nucleus of the Northern Interchange. Here the word interchange has reverted to the 1970's meaning and does NOT refer to a place where passengers can change there mode of public transport. The new rail route will remove the need for the heavy freight rail track traffic from the Dry Creek to Salisbury section of the Gawler line. Salisbury Station at Park Terrace was the site of a Ghan Train colliding with a Bus and two motor cars in October 2002 at the level crossing. 4 persons died and 27 people seriously injured as a result of the event.
