Anatomical Terms: Direction & Position (BEST VIDEO)

Anatomical Terminology - Drawn for directional terms, planes, orientations, regions, and sections. This is a defined tutorial of what you need to know! Read more below ⤵️ Subscribe if you are loving our content. We have a lot to teach and we can only do it with your support! Well, these anatomical directional terms make it easier for us to have a universal language when describing where what is! (No confusion). ✅ Anatomical Position A universal position that everyone refers to when speaking about human anatomy. So if we all think the same exact position then we will be thinking the same. These are the parameters of anatomical position: *Person is standing straight up - body is erect *Facing forward *Arms are at the side *Palms are facing forward *Feet are pointing forward ✅ Superior & Inferior When we say superior it means towards the head OR it can mean ‘upper’ or ‘above’ When we say inferior it means towards the feet Or it can mean ‘lower’ or ‘below’ ✅ Anterior & Posterior When we say anterior it means further to the front OR you can say ‘in front of’. When we say posterior it means further to the back OR you can say ‘in back of’. Please note sometimes you will hear Ventral or Dorsal. Ventral means the same as Anterior and Dorsal means the same as Posterior. Important 🤓 Anterior & Posterior are also terms used for how we view the body. Anterior view just means we are looking at it from the front and Posterior view just means we are looking at its posterior (the back). ✅ Medial & Lateral To understand these terms we have to first draw an imaginary line right down the center of the body from head to toe. This line is called the ‘midline’ that divides the body into right and left halves. Then we use this to understand the following terms based on the midline. When we say medial it means towards the midline of the body. When we say lateral it means towards the side of the body - away from the midline. Lateral is also referred to as a view, similar to when we spoke about the anterior and posterior view. Lateral is a 'side' view of the body or section. ✅ Proximal & Distal Proximal and distal are used when describing terms of the appendicular body. These are the limbs such as your arms and hands or legs and feet - essentially the appendages added to the axial body. The axial body refers to your core... the head, neck, and trunk of your body. When we say proximal it means closer to the axial body OR you can say ‘going towards the trunk'. When we say distal it means further from the axial body OR you can say ‘going further from the trunk’. ✅ Superficial & Deep When we say 'superficial’ it just means that it is closer to the surface of the body. When we say 'deep' it means further from the surface of the body. In this video we show a lateral view of the thoracic structures - this view shows the sternum as superficial to the heart, because it is clearly closer to the surface of the body (the skin). The heart that means is deep to the sternum. Try to think of a surgeon opening up the chest and YOU are telling the surgeon what structures comes next going deeper and deeper. (hope that makes sense). _____________________________ Chapters 0:00 - Intro to anatomical directions 0:16 - Anatomical position 0:30 - Superior & Inferior 1:00 - Anterior & Posterior 1:50- Medial & Lateral 2:40 - Proximal & Distal 3:34 - Superficial & Deep 3:52 - Support by donation & subscribing _____________________________ 💜 More content on the way  Share - Comment - Like! _____________________________ ✅ About REV MED 🧠 We are having fun while learning complex topics.
