You won’t believe the size of the milk tanker we use — it’s like something ells, and it turns up on our farm every other day! In this video, you’ll get a front-row seat to the day-to-day life here on our Yorkshire dairy farm. From cutting-edge milk collection technology to dealing with classic farmyard hiccups, there's always something going on. We start the day with Dales’s Dairies newest wagon, a clever bit of kit that meters, samples, and collects milk with pinpoint accuracy. It’s all pipes, valves, and moving parts — fascinating stuff if you love the behind-the-scenes of modern farming. Next, I sort out some trailer light issues after a mishap with a plug falling out the back of the Land Rover. Luckily, I’ve got some handy magnetic cordless trailer lights ready to go. Meanwhile, the calves need checking, and unfortunately, one has a bad case of ringworm — nothing too serious, but I chat with the vet to get some treatment lined up. It’s all part of keeping the animals healthy and happy. We move on to scraping out pens and laying fresh bedding, making sure the herd is comfy and well-fed. Feed levels are running low, so I check what’s left of our silage bales — just 19 remaining at our main stack, but we’ve got reserves at Simon’s stack. After that, it’s off to Gisburn market. I take you along for a walk inside the busy livestock market. Prices are on the rise, and it’s a great day for sellers. There’s some impressive calves up for sale and even a rare sighting — a working Renault tractor, which you don’t see much of these days. Back on the farm, I get stuck into weed control prep, especially those relentless docks. Honestly, if we could sell docks, we’d be millionaires. With a better weather forecast on the horizon, it’s time to fix a cracked spray pipe and get the nozzles ready to go. But the wind’s playing havoc, so we’ll hold off for calmer days. There’s also a bit of progress on the yard — we’ve laid fresh concrete, which might sound boring, but it’s a total game-changer for working in wet conditions. It’s just satisfying seeing the yard neat and tidy. We finish the day with a final check on the cows, pushing up the silage, making sure they’re content and in good health before calling it a night.
