Hello Friends, I was privileged to play "play parties" and "ring plays" with Bessie Jones when I was a child. She came to the Fox Hollow Folk Festival in upstate NY a number of summers. She was a force and a huge influence on me. I have taught the games I learned from her to children and adults all across the country. I especially remember her saying, "You white folks don't know how to play. You need to put your whole self in." In this post I tell how while playing Oh Green Fields Roxy, I put my whole self in and received the biggest smile and affirmation from her ever! Thank you Bessie Jones.
