Laniet Bain was going home on the weekend before the Bain killings to come clean to her family about her life. A former friend has given evidence at David Bain's murder retrial for the 1994 murders at the High Court in Christchurch. The witness told the court she saw Laniet four days before the murders. She said she was was happy and nervous, telling her she had given up being a prostitute and started a job at a cafe. "And that she was going home that weekend to blow the whistle on her being a sex worker . . . and that she'd been having an incestuous relationship with her father." The defence says this was the motive Robin Bain had for killing his family, then himself. A man who sold photocopiers in the early 1990s has given evidence about an encounter with Robin Bain. Darryl Young said he arranged to meet with Robin Bain at 9am one morning at his country school, but when he arrived the principal was not there. Staff told him Robin Bain might be in his caravan down the road, so he found the caravan, knocked on the door, then stepped back as he heard what he thought were two voices. Mr Young said Robin Bain then came out of the caravan dressed in only a towel, smelling of alcohol.
