IYKYK...the reel is the most important piece of equipment to an angler. It's really the most critical component of the setup. We always advise our clients to save money on rods and spend money on reels. We understand that not everyone has a big budget for a high-class reel, but proper tuning, care and maintenance of a less expensive reel can yield the same type of performance as a more expensive reel. In this video, Steve breaks down and services an Okuma Coldwater 303D linecounter reel. The reel is disassembled, cleaned, tuned up and reassembled, including a full breakdown and replacement of the drag system. Post-service reel timing is performed when the job is complete. This is a critical step and we encourage you to watch to the end so you can understand the importance of the reel's timing. It's like an alignment on your car...it keeps the vehicle going straight down the highway. It's critically important that the line flows from the spool in time with the roving of the levelwind eye or several problems can manifest.
