(17 Apr 2018) The South Korean chief presidential secretary said on Tuesday the upcoming inter-Korean summit will focus on the main issues of complete denuclearisation, the establishment of permanent peace and the dramatic improvement in relations. In a briefing at the presidential office, Im Jong-seok said the South-North summit, which is scheduled to take place on the South Korean side of the border village Panmunjom on April 27, is critical as it can impact on United States-North Korea relations and relations between the North and other neighbouring countries. Im said creating a hotline between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is underway and that the two leaders are expected to become capable of talking through the hotline in coming days. In an interview with the Associated Press earlier in the day, Moon Chung-in, special advisor to President Moon for foreign affairs, said that North Korea's denuclearisation has to be "complete, verifiable, and irreversible" in order to be accepted by Washington. Moon said, however, the prospect of peace talks also heavily depends on what the US promises to North Korea.
