For review and comment we share this fascinating restored Navy training film "Fundamentals of Photography" showing BASIC CAMERA components up to 1948. Hi resolution, B&W with excellent historical data and images of early camera equipment, the working of shutter and lens apparatus on various cameras, with explanations of how images are captured on various types of film. The film opens with a description of Giovanni Battista della Porta's Magica Naturalis (1553) and the camera obscura (Latin for "dark room") concept, an optical device that creates an image by focusing rays of light onto a screen or sheet of paper. Its benefits for artists were also noted by the Venetian nobleman Daniele Barbaro in 1568. Some popular brand names seen in the film include: Kodak, ANSCO, Bausch & Lomb, Wollensak, Graflex and others. Runs 15 minutes. (Scanned from the original film by http://www.laserfilmlab.com for more info please contact them) Uploaded for educational and historical review and comment by the Computer History Archives Project. A look back at camera technology decades before digital camera photography and editing was available.
